About Lauren
Designer | Educator | Illustrator | Builder
I'm a designer who took a seven-year detour into teaching and came out of it looking at design completely differently.
Before education, I worked as a graphic designer and art director. I learned to care deeply about typography, hierarchy, visual storytelling, and the tiny choices that determine whether an idea lands or disappears.
Teaching added another layer. Suddenly design wasn't just about getting someone's attention. I was watching, in real time, how people process information, where they get confused, what makes something click, and what happens when a tool asks too much of the person using it.
Now I work somewhere in the overlap of brand, product, UX, illustration, learning, and technology. I like messy problems, blank canvases, and projects where the answer isn't already obvious.
I'm especially happy when I can help figure out what something should be and then actually make it.

A few things that are also true

Stockholm is my favorite place I've ever traveled. I've never had another city immediately feel so much like my personality. I still can't fully explain why.

My cowboy caviar has a reputation spanning two states. It's become a thing among friends in both Kansas and Colorado.

After a decade living in Colorado, we moved back to Kansas City, right around the corner from the high school my husband and I both attended. Apparently we took “homecoming” very literally.

I care a lot about the human experience of things. It's a huge part of why I loved teaching and why I'm still drawn to designing things that make schools feel easier, clearer, and more human.

A TV being too loud can and will send me directly over the edge. There is a correct volume. I will immediately know when we've exceeded it.

I'm a muralist in my extremely limited free time. Sometimes a girl needs the canvas to be an entire wall.

My secret talent is character voices. Bedtime story time is less “reading a book” and more one-woman theatrical production.
